Year 5 - 2020-21

Dear Year 4. Or should I say the new Year 5?

Guess who? Ok, it’s Mr. Powell (your new teacher)

I really enjoyed teaching you in Year 3 alongside Miss Maguire, so we are therefore really pleased and excited that you will be back in my class in September! It is only a pity that we have not had time to have a proper transition into Year 5.

Having taught most of you before, I am only too aware of how talented and enthusiastic you all are; I can’t wait to see all of that enthusiasm again. I know that for most of you, there has been no formal education since March, so I would ask that you continue to read your books as well as maintaining your writing efforts. Remember, in Year 5 we will all be working hard and we will have a lot to catch up on. With this in mind, I would like you all to do a summer project.

Some ideas could be:

  • a summer art project titled ‘My Summer’
  • write a diary about your summer
  • design a maths games based around addition, subtraction, multiplication, division

In Year 5 we will be working on topics such as:

  • The Aztecs
  • The Egyptians
  • Natural Disasters
  • Britain in the 20th Century
  • The 2nd World War

These topics give all of us the opportunity to have a great deal of fun throughout the year and within our learning.

I hope you are looking forward to September as much as Miss Maguire and I are.

See you all soon.

Mr. Powell
